The Sawmill community was established during the 1920’s.
The area was under the jurisdiction of the BIA. A sawmill
operation was first started near fluted rock. A Fire
destroyed this mill in the 1940’s. Another mill was built
at the current community of Sawmill. Thereafter, the
community was called Sawmill. The Chapter was built and
certified in 1957.
Sawmill Chapter holds meetings monthly in order to keep the
residents informed and to provide a forum in which to
express their concerns to the Navajo Nation Council
delegates and decide on matters concerning the chapter.
Be advised that all items to be placed on the agenda for
consideration at the Planning and Chapter meeting must be
submitted to the Adminstration Office no later than 12:00
noon the day before the scheduled Planning Meeting.
